The Rugged Beauty Of The Scottsdale Desert

People are avidly seeking property in the Scottsdale, Arizona area for many reasons. One prominent reason is the wide range of indoor and outdoor activities available.

As you may know Scottsdale became home to the world famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright in 1937. Wright built Taliesin West, his winter abode, studio and architectural school in the beautiful Sonoran Desert, shaded by the McDowell Mountains.

Visitors today, continue to flock to Taliesin West, as it is a legacy of the birth of Wright’s new architectural style, and it remains a vibrant example of his genius. Tourists can tour the private residence where Wright once lived, along with the rest of Taliesin West, which has been completely restored to it’s original state, by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation.

Wright is famous for designs which integrated a home’s indoor and outdoor living spaces, and visitors get to see this first hand on tours through this remarkable property which range from one to three hours. Your tour may take you to Taliesen West’s many vistas overlooking the desert and valley below including walkways, gardens terraces, Kiva and Frank Lloyd Wright’s office, the Music Pavilion and the Cabaret Theater.

Wright’s architectural impact and ideas touch many areas in Scottsdale, the Scottsdale Convention and Visitor’s Bureau tells us, and one such example of this is found at Sanctuary on Camelback Mountain Resort and Spa, one of the most indulgent of Scottsdale’s resort properties. Along with Wright’s influence, this extravagant resort boasts a past that includes many well known Hollywood visitors.

Another who influenced the architectural design of Scottsdale was a former student of Frank Lloyd Wright’s by the name of Vernon Swaback. You will find the award-winning designs of this artist, who studied and worked at Taliesin West for over 20 years, throughout the Phoenix area, Paradise Valley and Scottsdale, showcased in hotels, custom homes, recreational facilities and office buildings.
